In short: gang sheets are as wide as the DTF film, usually 22 inches in the US (55 to 60 cm in Europe), and sold in lengths from about 12 to 240 inches. For the designs on them, a left-chest print is about 3.5 to 4 inches wide, a full front 10 to 12 inches and a full back 11 to 14 inches.
Standard gang sheet sizes
Most DTF printers use film that is 22 to 24 inches wide. Shops print on almost all of it, keeping a small margin on each side. That is why the width is fixed and the length is what you choose.
| Sheet size (inches) | Size (cm) | Roughly fits |
|---|---|---|
| 22 × 12 | 56 × 30 | 12 left-chest logos, or 1 full front |
| 22 × 24 | 56 × 61 | 25 to 30 left-chest logos, or 2 to 3 full fronts |
| 22 × 36 | 56 × 91 | 4 to 5 full fronts, or a mix of fronts and logos |
| 22 × 48 | 56 × 122 | 6 to 7 full fronts |
| 22 × 60 | 56 × 152 | 8 to 10 full fronts |
| 22 × 120 | 56 × 305 | 16 to 20 full fronts |
| 22 × 240 | 56 × 610 | Production runs; some shops cap a single file lower |
The "roughly fits" column assumes 0.25 inch gaps and designs at the sizes in the chart below. Rotating designs and mixing sizes usually fits more. A builder with auto-fill shows you the exact count.
Some shops sell sheets by the foot or the metre instead of fixed lengths, and some offer 30 inch wide film for larger prints. In Europe, pricing per metre or per centimetre of 55 or 60 cm film is common.
DTF transfer size chart
These are typical print widths. Height follows from the design's proportions.
| Placement | Adult | Youth | Toddler |
|---|---|---|---|
| Left chest | 3.5 to 4 in (9 to 10 cm) | 3 in (7.5 cm) | 2.5 in (6.5 cm) |
| Full front | 10 to 12 in (25 to 30 cm) | 8 to 9 in (20 to 23 cm) | 6 in (15 cm) |
| Full back | 11 to 14 in (28 to 35 cm) | 9 to 10 in (23 to 25 cm) | 6 to 7 in (15 to 18 cm) |
| Upper back / yoke | 10 to 12 in wide, 2 to 4 in tall | 8 in wide | 5 in wide |
| Sleeve | 2.5 to 3.5 in (6 to 9 cm) | 2 to 2.5 in | 1.5 to 2 in |
| Hat front | 2 to 4.5 in wide, max about 2.25 in tall | ||
| Tote bag | 8 to 12 in (20 to 30 cm) | ||
| Pocket / small logo | 2.5 to 3 in (6 to 7.5 cm) |
For oversized or 2XL+ garments, go to the top of the range rather than above it: a 12 inch front already looks large on most shirts.
How to choose the right sheet length
- Add up your designs at print size, including quantities.
- Add the gaps. About 0.25 inch between designs.
- Pick the next length up. A builder that auto-fills tells you the exact length you need and how much film is left over, so you can fill it with extra copies instead of wasting it.
Running short? Shrinking designs to squeeze them onto a smaller sheet is a false saving: a full front at 8 inches looks like a mistake on an adult shirt.
Resolution at each size
Size and resolution go together. A design that is sharp as a 3.5 inch logo can be blurry as a 12 inch back print, because the same pixels are spread over more space. At 300 DPI:
| Print width | Pixels needed |
|---|---|
| 3.5 in (9 cm) | 1,050 px |
| 10 in (25 cm) | 3,000 px |
| 12 in (30 cm) | 3,600 px |
| 14 in (35 cm) | 4,200 px |
If your file has fewer pixels than that, either print it smaller, find a vector original, or upscale it. Read how to upscale artwork for DTF for what upscaling can and cannot recover.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most common gang sheet size?
22 × 24 inches is the most common starting size in the US, followed by 22 × 60 inches for larger orders.
How wide is a DTF gang sheet?
Usually 22 inches (about 56 cm), which is the printable width of 24 inch film after margins. European shops often use 55 or 60 cm.
How big should a DTF transfer be for a shirt?
About 10 to 12 inches wide for a full front and 3.5 to 4 inches for a left-chest logo on adult sizes.
How big is a left chest DTF transfer?
3.5 to 4 inches (9 to 10 cm) wide on adult shirts, about 3 inches on youth sizes.
What size is a DTF transfer for the back of a shirt?
11 to 14 inches wide on adult shirts. Many shops use 12 inches as the default.
Can I set my own sheet width in PrintReadySheets?
Yes. The canvas width is set per account, anywhere from 20 to 120 cm, so it matches the film your printer actually uses.
